Dear Airplane Person: Thanks for visiting our web site. The sexy bird that you see in the 3-view on the right is Phoenix. It’s accurate to say that an enormous amount of engineering work has gone into the development of this aircraft and wind tunnel results show that it “works”. That means that, to a fair degree of engineering certainty, the airplane should perform and handle as we describe it here. Phoenix was the first aircraft designed by Flight Sciences.

With the FAA introduction of the LSA category and the unfortunate onset of the economic downturn in 2008, however, it made good business sense to put Phoenix on the backburner pending an improvement in the economy and concentrate on the development of a more economical LSA derivative of the Phoenix design, the Flyer, shown on the left. We have now completed the basic Flyer analysis and the design has been frozen. The results show that, like Phoenix, Flyer “works” and, if we do say so ourselves, it’s also a good lookin’ LSA category airplane. The Flyer is the bird that we want to get up in the air as soon as possible because it looks very promising.

So, where are we? We’ve begun construction of the Flyer airframe using in-house funding. We are initiating a campaign to raise the additional funding required to complete and flight test the prototype. Our continued progress depends on raising this additional funding (as the guy said in the movie “The Right Stuff”, ‘No bucks, no Buck Rogers’). With that end in mind, we’ve begun advertising for business partners at www.Barnstormers.com under the Business Opportunities category and, perhaps, that ad brought you to our web site. If it did, Welcome! We’re glad you’re here. We’ve created this web site to tell you about the project, its background, where it is now and where it’s going. Our intention is to give you sufficient information so that you can decide, at least on a preliminary basis, whether you’d like to become involved in this exciting project, either as an investor/partner or as a member of the crew or both. By the way, we haven’t forgotten profits. Profits make the American system go. For those of you guys who are interested, we’ve put together a detailed Business Plan that does a good job of spelling out the potential profits that the Flyer project should produce.

Look, there’s only one way to “raise the bar”. You’ve got to strive for excellence. That’s the only way to get there and that’s why our logo says what it says. From our philosophical point of view, an aircraft can be said to be “excellent” if its over-all characteristics are viewed by the flying public as a significant step forward in the state of the art that produces a quantum increase in the Joy of Flight. That’s what it’s all about, that’s what makes it worth doing and that’s where we’re going.

We hope that you enjoy this web site. We hope that you find it interesting and, perhaps, educational. We intend to take you with us as we proceed down the road toward the first flight of the Flyer prototype. Thanks for stopping by and please stop by again. If you’re interested, click on the “contact” button and get a hold of us. We’d be happy to talk to you.

Sincerely yours,

The Flight Sciences Guys
